Privacy Policy

What Reddit Archive collects, how searches are processed by a third-party data service, how long data is kept, and how to contact us.

Last updated: 2026-10-29

This policy explains what Reddit Archive (“we”, “us”) collects when you use redditarchive.org, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@redditarchive.org.

What you can do without an account

You can read the public pages of this site without an account. Running a search requires an account, which includes one free credit on signup.

How a search is processed

When you submit a search, your browser sends it to our server. Our server validates it and sends the information needed to complete the lookup — for example the keywords, username, subreddit, or post/comment identifier — to a third-party data service that reads publicly available Reddit content. The service returns the results to us and we show them to you.

Because of this, searches are not processed only on your device. We do not claim that your queries stay local, and we do not run our own full archive of Reddit.

What we collect

  • Lookup activity (minimal). To enforce credits and prevent abuse we keep your credit balance with your account, and temporary request-rate signals. We do not keep a searchable history of your searches, and we do not send the raw text of your searches, usernames, or result bodies to analytics tools.
  • Account information. If you sign up, we store your email address and name, a password hash if you use email sign-up, and the identifiers needed for sign-in. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account name, email address and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
  • Credits and orders. If you buy a Research Pass we store the order, the credits granted and their expiry. Card details are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
  • Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, error codes) kept for security and troubleshooting.
  • Cookies. Cookies for sign-in sessions, consent choices, your theme preference, attribution and credit counting. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics may also set its measurement cookies. You can reject or later withdraw non-essential cookies through the Cookie settings link in the footer.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google, to understand page visits and general use of Reddit Archive. The configured measurement ID is G-T42LH4TTDK. GA4 may process technical information such as the page path, page title, browser and device information, language, approximate region, timestamps and referral information.

We do not configure GA4 with your account ID, email address, raw search text, Reddit usernames, or result bodies. Search terms and identifiers in the search page URL are removed from the page-view URL sent to GA4. We do not use GA4 to sell personal data or to create advertising audiences; Google signals and ad-personalisation signals are disabled in our configuration.

When the Cookie Banner is enabled, GA4 starts with Google Consent Mode set to deny analytics and advertising storage. Analytics cookies are not enabled unless you choose Accept All. Choosing Reject All keeps analytics storage denied. You can reopen Cookie settings from the footer to change or withdraw your choice. Google processes data as a service provider under its own policies and terms.

How we use data

To provide and secure the service, apply credit limits, process payments, answer support requests, and fix problems. We do not sell personal data.

Content shown from Reddit

Results are public Reddit content. We show it only to answer your request and link to the original on Reddit. That does not remove content from Reddit or from independent copies elsewhere.

Sharing

We share data only with providers that help us run the service: the third-party data service described above, hosting, a payment processor (when you buy), and Google (when you choose Google sign-in). They may process data only to provide their service to us.

Retention

Credit cookies expire within two days. Account and order records are kept while your account exists and as required for accounting and legal obligations. You can ask us to delete your account by emailing support@redditarchive.org.

Your choices

You can browse the public pages without an account, clear cookies at any time, and ask us to access, correct or delete your account data.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will update the date above when this policy changes.
